Our Valley


The Catawba Valley is a very special place in southwestern Virginia with beautiful landscapes and a rich history of hard-working, generous people. It’s no wonder we want to care for this valley.The Catawba Valley is located in southwestern Virginia, spanning across parts of Botetourt, Roanoke, and Montgomery Counties. Nestled between Catawba and Paris Mountains to the south and Brush and North Mountains to the north, the valley is roughly defined as stretching the 25 miles from the Roanoke Cement Company location in Troutville to Lacie’s Garden Center outside of Blacksburg. Typical of the Ridge & Valley region of the Appalachians, the valley is characterized by long parallel ridges with steep rocky slopes and a narrow valley floor. The environmental features of the valley as well as its history and communities make it a very unique and special place. By learning more about these features, it’s easy to see why we care about it today and for the future.
