Field to Fork -- Local food sources in the Valley

Buying food locally is great for a number of reasons, but sometimes it can be hard to find exactly what you are looking for. The purpose of this meeting is to profile growers and producers in the Catawba and North Fork Valleys and connect them directly to the people whose mouths they would like to feed. Come and meet your local farmers, growers, and neighbors. Co-sponsored by Catawba Sustainability Center and Earthworks.
Vernal Pool Exploration - Discovery in your own backyard

Co-sponsored by the NRV Master Naturalist Program, this 2-day workshop will explore the magic of the pools and ponds that appear around the region in the springtime and then disappear again. Wildlife & Habitat in the Valleys -- All creatures great & small

Deer, turkey, quail, bear, rabbit, coyote, bobcat, songbirds, trout -- how can you attract the wildlife you want (and deter the ones you don’t)? Habitat is the key and native warm season grasses can help. This workshop focuses on habitat management and programs available to fund plantings. Field trips with tree plantings are planned. Lunch is available for $5.
Streamcare in Action on the North Fork

At the headwaters of the James and Roanoke Rivers, the streams and creeks of the valley are critical for the water quality for millions of people. Explore streamcare options and funding sources, and visit the restoration work of your neighbors. Field trips will be included. Presented with NRV Trout Unlimited and Dept. of Game & Inland Fisheries.
